Richard Jewell is a 2019 American biographical drama film directed and produced by Clint Eastwood and written by Billy Ray. It is based on the 1997 Vanity Fair article "American Nightmare: The Ballad of Richard Jewell" by Marie Brenner and the 2019 book The Suspect: An Olympic Bombing, the FBI, the Media, and Richard Jewell, the Man Caught in the Middle by Kent Alexander and Kevin Salwen.

The film depicts the July 27 Centennial Olympic Park bombing and its aftermath, as security guard Richard Jewell finds a bomb during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, and alerts authorities to evacuate, only to later be wrongly accused of having placed the device himself. The film stars Paul Walter Hauser as Jewell, alongside Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, and Olivia Wilde.

The film had its world premiere on November 20, 2019, at the AFI Fest, and was theatrically released in the United States on December 13, 2019, by Warner Bros. Pictures… It was chosen by the National Board of Review as one of the ten best films of the year… For her performance, Bates won the National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actress and earned nominations at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes.

n 1986, Richard Jewell works as an office supply clerk in a small public law firm, where he builds a rapport with attorney Watson Bryant. Jewell leaves the firm to pursue a law enforcement career. At some point Jewell is hired as a sheriff's deputy, but ends up discharged. In early 1996, he's working as a security guard at Piedmont College, but is fired after multiple complaints of acting beyond his jurisdiction. Jewell later moves in with his mother Bobi in Atlanta. In the summer of 1996, he works as a security guard at the Olympic Games, monitoring Centennial Park.

In the early morning of July 27, 1996, after chasing off drunken revelers during a Jack Mack and the Heart Attack concert, Jewell notices a suspicious package beneath a bench, which an explosives expert confirms contains a bomb. The security team, including police officers, FBI agent Tom Shaw, and Jewell's friend Dave Dutchess, are moving concert attendees away from the bomb when it detonates, and Jewell is initially heralded as a hero.

After being contacted by the dean of Piedmont College about his dislike and suspicions of Jewell, at Atlanta's FBI office, Shaw and his team determine that Jewell, as a white, male, "wanna-be" police officer, fits the common profile of perpetrators committing similar crimes, comparing him to others who sought glory and attention by rescuing people from a dangerous situation they created themselves.

Shaw is approached by journalist Kathy Scruggs of the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. Over drinks in a cop bar, Shaw reveals that Jewell is under FBI suspicion. The Constitution publishes Scruggs's story on the front page, disclosing the FBI's interest in Jewell as a possible suspect. Scruggs makes particular note of Jewell's physique, the fact he lives with his mother, and work history to reassure herself that he fits the FBI's profile. The story quickly becomes international news.

Jewell, initially unaware of his changing public perception, is lured to the FBI office. He initially cooperates but refuses to sign an acknowledgement he has been read his Miranda rights, and instead phones Watson Bryant for legal representation. Bryant, now running his own struggling law firm, agrees and makes Jewell aware he is a prime suspect in the news.

Shaw and partner Sam Bennet visit the dean of Piedmont College, who reinforces their suspicion of Jewell. The FBI searches Jewell's home and seize property including true crime books and a cache of firearms. Jewell admits to Bryant that he has been evading income taxes for years and was once arrested for exceeding his authority. Bryant scolds Jewell for being too collegial with the police officers investigating him. Jewell admits his ingrained respect for authority makes it difficult for him not to be deferential, even when the authorities are trying to do him harm.

Jewell and Bryant confront Scruggs, demanding a retraction and apology, but she stands by her reporting. Still not completely convinced of Jewell's innocence, Bryant and his long-suffering secretary Nadya time the distance between the phone booth which was discovered to have made the initial threat of the bomb, and the bomb site, concluding it is impossible for someone to phone in the bomb threat and discover the bomb at the time it was found. Scruggs and Shaw come to the same conclusion, and the FBI changes their picture of the crime to include an accomplice. As their case weakens, the FBI try to link Dutchess to Jewell as a possible homosexual accomplice.

Bryant arranges a polygraph examination which Jewell passes, removing Bryant's doubt about his innocence. Bobi holds a press conference and pleads for the investigation to cease so she and her son may get on with their lives. Jewell and Bryant meet with Shaw and Bennet at the FBI office, and after some irrelevant questions, Jewell realizes they have no evidence against him. When he asks pointedly if they are ready to charge him, their silence convinces him to leave, finally having lost his sense of awe for law enforcement officers.

Eighty-eight days after being named "a person of interest", Jewell is informed by formal letter that he is no longer under investigation.

In April 2003, Jewell, now a police officer in Luthersville, Georgia, is visited by Bryant who tells him that Eric Rudolph has confessed to the Centennial Olympic Park bombing.

An epilogue states that two years later, on August 29, 2007, Jewell died at the age of 44 of complications from diabetes and heart failure. It also mentions that Bryant and Nadya got married and had two sons, both of whom Bobi babysits to this day.

Jewell was never charged with a crime, but media speculation led to the FBI publicly searching his home twice, his friends and neighbors being questioned, as well as FBI surveillance of him. A Justice Department investigation of the FBI's conduct in the case, found that the FBI had “tried to manipulate Jewell into waiving his constitutional rights by telling him he was taking part in a training film about bomb detection”, although the report concluded “no intentional violation of Mr. Jewell's civil rights and no criminal misconduct” had taken place.

On October 26, 1996, the United States Attorney in Atlanta, Kent Alexander, sent Jewell a letter saying “based on the evidence developed to date ... Richard Jewell is not considered a target of the federal criminal investigation into the bombing on July 27, 1996, at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta”. The letter did not include an apology, but in a separate statement issued by Alexander, the U.S. Justice Department regretted the leaking of the investigation.

The separately issued statement said that Jewell “endured highly unusual and intense publicity that was neither designed nor desired by the F.B.I., and in fact interfered with the investigation”, and that “The public should bear in mind that Richard Jewell has at no time been charged with any crime in connection with the bombing.” The New York Times reported that the statement was “a tacit admission by Federal officials that they had been wrong in their suspicion of Mr. Jewell.”

On July 31, 1997, U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno expressed personal regret over the leak that led to intense scrutiny of Jewell. She said, “I'm very sorry it happened. I think we owe him an apology. I regret the leak.”

On August 2, 2006, Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue honored Jewell for his rescue efforts during the attack, and publicly thanked him for saving people's lives. Perdue said Jewell “deserves to be remembered as a hero.”

CNN settled a libel suit brought by Jewell for an undisclosed monetary amount.

Jewell sued NBC News for this statement made by Tom Brokaw, “The speculation is that the FBI is close to making the case. They probably have enough to arrest him right now, probably enough to prosecute him, but you always want to have enough to convict him as well. There are still some holes in this case.” The network agreed to pay Jewell $500,000.

Jay Leno also apologized during a Tonight Show episode on October 28, 1996.

On July 23, 1997, Jewell sued the New York Post for $15 million in damages, contending that the paper portrayed him an “aberrant” person with a “bizarre employment history” who was probably guilty of the bombing. He eventually settled with the newspaper for an undisclosed amount.

Jewell filed suit against his former employer Piedmont College. The college settled for an undisclosed amount.

Released in late 2019, the movie got caught up in the hubbub of the COVID pandemic and the shutdown of theatres, but it is a worthwhile reminder of what happens when the media acts as a lynch mob and politicians and law enforcement go along for the ride. Richard Jewell was never the same after what he went through. He died a broken spirit.

Recently, in Sussex County, leaders of the Democrat Party – including former candidates, the former Party Chairwoman, and the current Democrat State Committeewoman – have been making defamatory accusations against their neighbors and the residents of their county. In concert with former candidate Kristy Lavin, Democrats like former Party Chairwoman Katie Rotondi have used public meetings to make unfounded accusations of criminal behavior against county residents.

Democrat operative Michael Schnackenberg has posted violent threats against political opponents – specifically targeting women with lurid, sexual insults – while Democrat Congressman Josh Gottheimer used the resources of his incumbency to make unfounded accusations of criminal behavior against political opponents. Before creating more innocent victims, in the way that Richard Jewell was a victim, the Democrats should think about it and perhaps embrace the historic liberalism they once possessed.

Yuri Bezmenov’s father, pictured on left, was a Soviet general loyal to Stalin before, during, and after World War II. Yuri attended elite Russian schools was then given highly sought jobs with the KGB in the field of “Ideological Subversion”.

Griffin (0:00): Our conversation is with Yuri Alexander Bezmenov. Mr. Bezmenov was born in 1939 in a suburb of Moscow. He was the son of a high ranking Soviet officer. He was educated in the elite schools inside the Soviet Union and he became an expert in Indian culture and Indian languages. He had an outstanding career with Novesti, which was the, and still is I should say, the press arm or the press agency of the Soviet Union. It turns out that this is also a front for the KGB. He escaped to the West in 1970 after becoming totally disgusted with the Soviet system, and he did this at great risk to his life*. He certainly is one of the world’s outstanding experts on the subject of Soviet propaganda and disinformation and active measures.

*Yuri Bezmenov died suddenly and “unexpectedly” in 1993 at age 44.  Russia still systematically murders government agents and critics of the regime who leave the country without permission.

Mr. Bezmenov, the Soviets use the phrase “Ideological Subversion.” What do they mean by that?

Bezmonev (0:54): Ideological subversion is the process which is legitimate overt and open, you can see it with your own eyes. All you can do, all Americans needs to do is to unplug the bananas from their ears, open up their eyes and they can see. There is no mystery. It has nothing to do with espionage. I know that espionage and intelligence gathering looks more romantic, it sells more deodorant to the audience through the advertising, probably. That’s why your Hollywood producers are so crazy about James Bond type of thrillers. But in reality, the main emphasis of the KGB is not in the area of intelligence at all. According to my opinion and the opinion of many defectors of my caliber, only about fifteen percent of time, money and manpower is spent on espionage as such. The other eighty-five percent is a slow process which we call either ideological subversion or active measures, активные мероприятия,  (romanized: aktivnye meropriyatiya)*, in the language of my country,  or psychological warfare.

What it basically means is, to change the perception of reality, of every American, to such an extent that despite an abundance of information no one is able to come to sensible conclusions in the interest of defending themselves, their family, their community and their country.

It’s a great brainwashing process which goes very slow and is divided into four basic stages. The first one being demoralization. It takes from fifteen to twenty years to demoralize a nation. Why that many years? Because this is the minimum number of years required to educate on generation of students in the country of your enemy, exposed to the ideology of the enemy. In other words, Marxism, Leninism ideology is being pumped into the soft heads of at least three generations of American students, without being challenged or contra-balanced by the basic values of Americanism, American patriotism.

Most of the activity of the department was to compile huge amount, volume of information on individuals who were instrumental in creating public opinion. Publishers, editors, journalists, actors, educationalists, professors of political science, members of Parliament, representatives of business circles. Most of these people were divided roughly in two groups. Those who were told the Soviet foreign policy, they would be promoted to the positions of power through media and public opinion manipulation. Those who refuse the Soviet influence in their country would be character assassinated, or executed physically contra-revolution. Same was as in a small town named Hue* in South Vietnam. Several thousand so of Vietnamese were executed in one night when the city was captured by Vietcong for only two days. And American CIA could never figure out, how could possibly Communists know each individual, where he lives, where to get him, and would be arrested in one night, basically in some four hours before dawn, put on a van, taken out of the city limits and shot. The answer is very simple, long before communists occupied the city there was extensive network of informers, local Vietnamese citizens who knew absolutely everything about people who are instrumental in public opinion including barbers and taxi drivers. Everybody who was sympathetic to the United States was executed.

Same thing was doing under the guidance of the Soviet Embassy in Hanoi, and same thing I was doing in New Delhi. To my horror I discovered that in the files where people were doomed to execution there were names of pro-

Soviet journalists with whom I was personally friendly.

Griffin (5:02): Personally?

Bezmonev (5:03): Yes! They were idealistically minded leftists who made several visits to USSR.  And yet the KGB decided that come the revolution and drastic changes in the political structure of India, they would have to go.

Griffin (5:17): Why’s that?

Bezmonev (5:18): Because they know too much. Simply because, you see, the useful idiots, the leftists who are idealistically believing in the beauty of Soviet socialist or Communist or whatever system, when they get disillusioned they become the worst enemies. That’s why my KGB instructors specifically made a point, never bother with leftists. Forget about this political prostitutes. Aim higher. This was my instruction-try to get into large circulation established conservative media. Reach movie makers, intellectuals, so called academic circles, cynical egocentric people who can look into your eyes with angelic expression and tell you a lie. This are the most recruit-able people, people who lack moral principles, who are either too greedy or suffer from self-importance. They feel that they matter a lot. These are the people KGB wanted very much to recruit.

Griffin (6:21): To eliminate the others. To execute the others. Don’t they serve some purpose, wouldn’t they be the ones to rely on..

Bezmonev (6:27): No. They serve purpose only at the stage of destabilization of a nation. For example, your leftists in the United States, all these professors and all these beautiful civil rights defenders, they are instrumental in the process of the subversion, only to destabilize a nation. When their job is completed, they are not needed anymore. They know too much. Some of them, when they get disillusioned, when they see that Marxist Leninist has come to power obviously they get offended. They think that they will come to power. That will never happen of course. They will be lined up against the wall and shot. But they may turn into the most bitter enemies of Marxist-Leninists when they come to power, and that’s what happened in Nicaragua.  You remember most of these former Leninist Marxists were either put to prison.  Or one of them split and now he’s working against Sandinistas. It happened in Grenada when Maurice Bishop, he was already a Marxist, he was executed by a new Marxist who was more Marxist than this Marxist. Same happened in Afghanistan when firs there was Tariki he was killed by Amin, and Amin was killed by Karmal with the help of KGB. Same happened in Bangladesh when Mujibur Rahman, very pro-soviet leftist was assassinated by his own Marxist Leninist military comrades. It’s the same pattern everywhere. The moment they serve their purpose,  all the useful idiots are either executed entirely, all the idealistically minded Marxists, or exiled, or put in prisons like in Cuba where many former Marxists are in prison.

So, basically, America is stuck with the demoralization unless, even if you start right now here this minute, you start educating huge generation of Americans, it will still take you fifteen to twenty years to turn the tide of ideological perception of reality back to normalcy and patriotism.

The result? The result you can see. Most of the people who were educated in the sixties, drop outs or half-baked intellectuals are now occupying the positions of power in the Government, civil service, business, mass media, educational system. You are stuck with them. You cannot get rid of them. They are contaminated, They are programmed to think and react to certain stimuli in a certain pattern. You cannot change their mind even if you expose them to authentic information, even if you prove that white is white and black is black you still cannot change the basic perception and illogical behavior. In other words, these people, the process of demoralization is complete and irreversible. To get society rid of these people you need another twenty or fifteen years to educate a new generation of patriotically-minded and common-sense people who would be acting in favor and in the interests of the United States society.

Griffin (9:37): And yet these people have been programmed, and as you say, in place, who are favorable to an opening to the Soviet concept. These are the very people who would be marked for extermination in this country?

Bezmonev (9:48): Most of them, yes. Simply because the psychological shock when they will see in future what the beautiful society of equality and social justice means in practice, obviously they will revolt. They will be very unhappy frustrated people. And the Marxist Leninist regime does not tolerate these people. Obviously they will join the likes of dissenters, dissidents. Unlike in present United States there will be no place for dissent in future Marxist Leninist America. Here you can get popular like Daniel Ellsberg and filthy rich like Jane Fonda for being dissident for criticizing your Pentagon. In future these people will be simply “pffft.” Squashed like cockroaches. Nobody’s going to pay them nothing for their beautiful noble ideas about equality. This they don’t understand and it will be greatest shock for them of course.

(10:51) The demoralization process in the United States is basically completed already. For the last twenty-five years, actually it’s over-fulfilled.  Because the demoralization now reaches such areas where previously not even comrade Andropov and all his experts would even dream of such a tremendous success. Most of it is done by Americans to Americans thanks to lack of moral standards. As I mentioned before exposure to true information does not matter anymore. A person who was demoralized is unable to assess true information. The facts tell nothing to him. Even if I shower him with information, with authentic proof, with documents, with pictures. Even if I take him by force to the Soviet Union and show him concentration camp he will refuse to believe it until he is going to receive a kick in his fat bottom. When the military boot crashes his, then he will understand, but not before that. That’s the tragic of the situation of demoralization.

The next stage is destabilization. This time, subverter does not care about your ideas and the patterns of your consumption, whether you eat junk food and get fat and flabby, doesn’t matter anymore. This time, and it takes only two to five years to destabilize a nation, what matters is essentials. Economy, Foreign Relations, Defense Systems. And you can see it quite clearly that in some areas, in such sensitive areas as Defense and economy, the influence of Marxist Leninist ideas in the United States is absolutely fantastic. I could never believe it fourteen years ago when I landed in this part of the world that the process will go that fast.

The next stage of course is Crisis. It may take only up to six weeks to bring a country to the verge of crisis. You can see it in Central America now. And after crisis with a violent change of power structure and economy you have so called the period of Normalization. It may last indefinitely. Normalization is a cynical expression borrowed from Soviet propaganda. When the Soviet tanks moved into Czechoslovakia in 1968, comrade Brezhnev said, Now the situation in brotherly Czechoslavakia is normalized. This is what will happen in the United States if you allow all the schmucks to bring the country to crisis, to promise people all kind of goodies and the paradise on Earth, to destabilize your economy, to eliminate the principle of free market competition and to put Big Brother government in Washington DC with benevolent dictators like Walter Mondale who will promise lots of things.  Never mind whether the promises are fulfilled or not. He will go to Moscow to kiss the bottoms of new generation of Soviet assassins.  Never mind. He will create false illusions that the situation is under control. The situation is not under control. The situation is disgustingly out of control.

Most of the American politicians, media and educational system trains another generation of people who think they are living at the peace time. False. The United States is in a state of war. Undeclared total war against the basic principles and the foundations of this system. And the initiator of this war is not comrade Andropov, of course, it’s the system, however ridiculous it may sound, the world communist system, or the world communist conspiracy.  Whether it scares some people or not I don’t give a hoot. If you’re not scared by now, nothing can scare you. But you don’t have to be paranoid about it. What actually happens now that unlike myself you have literally several years to live on unless the United States wake up. The time bomb is ticking. Every second, the disaster is coming closer and closer. Unlike myself, you will have nowhere to defect to, unless you want to live in Antarctica with penguins. This is it. This is the last country of freedom and possibility.

Griffin (15:23): Ok, so, what do we do? What is your recommendation to the American people?

Bezmonev (15:27): Well, the immediate thing that comes to my mind is of course, there must be a very strong national effort to educate people in the spirit of real patriotism, one. Number two, to explain the real danger of socialist communist whatever, welfare state, big brother government. If people will fail to grasp the impending danger of that development, nothing ever can help the United States, you must kiss goodbye to your freedoms, including freedoms to homosexuals, to prison inmate, all this freedom will vanish. It will evaporate in five seconds including your precious lives. The second thing, the moment, at least part of the United States population is convinced that the danger is real. They have to force their Government, and I’m not talking about sending letters, signing petitions and all this beautiful noble activity. I’m talking about forcing United States Government to stop aiding communism.

Obama Attacked And Lied About Hispanics. He Knows They Left Democrats Because So Many Hispanics Recognize The Same False Promises Made By Socialists Who Took Over And Ruined Their Home Countries.

After last November’s election, former President Obama, attacked and lied about Hispanics who voted for Trump. Without Evidence, Former President Obama Accuses Hispanic Trump Voters Of Bigotry (thefederalist.com)

Obama calmly and casually said one outrageous lie after another as if they were undisputed facts. Obama falsely claimed evangelical (Protestant) Hispanics caused Democrat losses in Texas and Florida. He said they voted for Trump “who says racist things about Mexican or puts undocumented workers in cages” because “he supports their views on gay marriage or abortion”.

If Facebook “factcheckers” did to Democrats what they do to us, they would have blocked that post. Trump’s remarks about criminal gangs from Mexico were true facts, not racist. And it was Obama, not Trump, who put “kids in cages” when those gangs used kidnapped children as passports to illegally enter the United States. Also, most Hispanics supported Trump for political, not religious reasons. Many had been fooled into supporting socialists in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, and were not about to be fooled by "Democratic Socialists" again.

However, Obama’s obscession with Hispanics who #walkaway from Democrats suggests how we can win over other groups of Democrats to save America.

First, we must consider the possibility that Biden won last November because most American voters now support Democrats. The key to winning in the future is to bet more blacks, women and students to #walkaway from Democrats and do what so many Hispanics did. 1. Most American blacks still vote solidly for Democrats, even though it is against their interests. Most problems faced by black Americans today are caused by Democrats who run almost every city where they live as one party, corrupt, failed socialist, mini-states. He called it a "great brainwashing technique" used "to change the perception of reality by every American to such an extent that in spite of an abundance of information, nobody is able to come to sensible conclusions in defending themselves, their families, their communities and their country". 3. College students are the fourth biggest block of Democrat voters. Virtually every class in every subject is saturated with "Ideological Subversion". Perhaps the first step have them doubt their professors and what they are being to taught is to ask this simple question: "Why are you expected to pay for your college education with mortgage sized loans that will take a lifetime to repay, when your grandparents could pay for a year of college with a summer of work?"

Because of ballot errors last November, there will be a court ordered special election on April 20 to fill the seat of District 3 Commissioner (formerly Freeholder) in Atlantic County. Republican Andrew “Drew” Parker, of Egg Harbor Township in Atlantic County is running against Thelma Witherspoon. District 3 (shown in yellow above) includes most of Egg Harbor Township and 7 voting districts in Hamilton Township (Mays Landing). Drew Parker and his family have shown great courage in promoting traditional American values and principles within the black community.

Will Steinhardt now disclose his clients who invest in Communist China?

Did you hear… Jack Ciattarelli is a Commie!
 
Yep, the campaign of gubernatorial candidate Doug Steinhardt has followed up the announcement that “I’m not a politician, at all”, with a bigger, stupider lie. 
 
Yesterday, the Steinhardt campaign sent around an email that accused Ciattarelli of investing in “the Chinese Communist Party.”  The email went on to explain:
 
“As recently as 2017, Ciattarelli had ownership in several Chinese business investments all tied to the Communist Party of China (CPC).  It’s outrageous, but true - Ciattarelli actually owned financial interests in China Eastern Airlines, China Lodging Group and China Mobile Ltd.” 
 
The email included an image of Ciattarelli’s 2016 Personal Financial Disclosure Statement, filed with the New Jersey Legislature on May 2, 2017).  Steinhardt’s missive continued:
 
“At least two of his investments have direct connections to the CPC. According to Centre for Aviation, Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines is one of China's 'big three' state-owned airlines. Moreover, China Mobile is reportedly controlled directly by the Communist Party of China. According to a report from Forbes, the Federal Communications Commission sought to reject China Mobile’s application to provide telecommunications in the United States because of its CPC influences.”
 
While it is true that candidates for public office are responsible for where they place their money and with whom they invest, it is also true that investments are often made without very much detailed geo-political information on the company invested in or the fund doing the investing.  Perhaps there should be federal labeling laws? 
 

True to its tribute band aspirations, the Steinhardt campaign goes on to level this attack against Ciattarelli:

“While Ciattarelli has been profiting from his investments in Communist China, President Trump and Doug Steinhardt have been promoting strategies that put America first, protect our Nation’s interests, promote election integrity, and hold China accountable for the spread of the COVID-19 virus.”

They even have a quote from Steinhardt – one in which he does the full Elvis impersonation…

“New Jersey needs a leader who will stand with President Trump’s ‘America First’ policies and against the Communist Party of China, not invest American dollars in the CPC. It’s time New Jersey leaders start protecting our financial interests instead of only worrying about their own. While conservative leaders who understand the threat the CPC poses seek to distance themselves from Communist China, Jack Ciattarelli has a long history of making money by investing in CPC linked companies. Voters must know that Jack is morally compromised on this important, national issue.”

Morally compromised? Didn’t the Philadelphia Inquirer report that Doug Steinhardt’s law firm wanted to buy a marijuana farm? Isn’t Steinhardt’s partner, the ever-so-conservative Jim Florio, the state’s biggest promoter of edible marijuana? You know, they put the stuff in chocolate bars, peanut butter cups, and gummy bears… and then the kids get hold of it and nobody is the wiser. A teacher or a parent or a cop can see when a kid is smoking a joint – but how do you effectively monitor candy? Guess “morality” must come in assorted flavors too.

But let’s place Doug Steinhardt’s questioning of Jack Ciattarelli's morality to one side for the moment.

We have to ask… Why doesn’t the Steinhardt campaign know that Donald Trump is heavily invested in China and that he does so much business with China, he maintains a bank account there? Given who is running the Steinhardt campaign… WTF!

If anyone missed it, the New York Times did a pretty big story on it at the end of October. Oh, and catch these dates…

“Trump Records Shed New Light on Chinese Business Pursuits... As he raises questions about his opponent’s standing with China, President Trump’s taxes reveal details about his own activities there, including a previously unknown bank account... President Trump at a 2017 meeting with the leader of China, Xi Jinping. Mr. Trump has a long history of chasing licensing deals in the country.”

One story from October 20, 2020, was particularly in-depth:

“Mr. Trump’s own business history is filled with overseas financial deals, and some have involved the Chinese state. He spent a decade unsuccessfully pursuing projects in China, operating an office there during his first run for president and forging a partnership with a major government-controlled company.

And it turns out that China is one of only three foreign nations — the others are Britain and Ireland — where Mr. Trump maintains a bank account, according to an analysis of the president’s tax records, which were obtained by The New York Times.”

The story notes that Trump paid China $188,561 in taxes – which is, by some accounts, more than he paid in the United States. Trump’s attorney would not identify the bank in China where the account is held, but the Times noted that China’s biggest state-controlled bank rented three floors in Trump Tower as late as 2019.

The Times continues:

“Mr. Trump has long sought a licensing deal in China. His efforts go at least as far back as 2006, when he filed trademark applications in Hong Kong and the mainland. Many Chinese government approvals came after he became president. (The president’s daughter Ivanka Trump also won Chinese trademark approvals for her personal business after she joined the White House staff.)”

“In 2008, Mr. Trump pursued an office tower project in Guangzhou that never got off the ground. But his efforts accelerated in 2012 with the opening of a Shanghai office… Mr. Trump found a partner in the State Grid Corporation, one of the nation’s largest government-controlled enterprises. Agence France-Presse reported in 2016 that the partnership would have involved licensing and managing a development in Beijing. Mr. Trump was reportedly still pursuing the deal months into his first presidential campaign, but it was abandoned after State Grid became ensnared in a corruption investigation by Chinese authorities.”

Doug Steinhardt should take a moment and read this and accompanying articles on Donald Trump’s business connections with China. We’re surprised nobody on his staff took the time to do so before issuing an attack that questioned Jack Ciattarelli’s morals – and by implication, those of President Donald Trump as well.

We would like to ask Doug, because he allowed his handlers to place a direct quote from him in their attack, do you now believe that Donald Trump is a Communist too? Does this mean that Jack Ciattarelli is more like Trump than Doug Steinhardt? That’s never good for a cover band, Doug.

But this get’s worse.

Doug Steinhardt allowed his team to put out this quote from him: “While President Trump and I were fighting to hold the CPC accountable, swampy politicians like Jack Ciattarelli were taking financial advice from the likes of Hunter Biden and making a personal profit off of questionable investments. I call on Jack Ciattarelli to immediately disclose all of his Chinese business holdings."

Hunter Biden? Where the hell did that come from?

See Doug, this is why you hire competent people. Sane people. People who don’t throw some name into the mix, simply because they heard it somewhere, regardless of whether it has anything remotely to do with what you are on about.

Can we flesh out this Hunter Biden thing? Does your campaign have any evidence at all that Ciattarelli took “financial advice” from Hunter Biden or, is the former top Republican in New Jersey (now a gubernatorial candidate) simply smearing the entire financial services industry? Shame on you for letting them put your name on that. It wasn’t smart.

Even less smart was them getting you to issue a call for Jack Ciattarelli to “disclose all of his Chinese business holdings.” You know you probably have all that information already. But now you’ve opened the door for him to ask you to disclose the Pandora’s Box of your clients – and all their dealings. And how many of them look at the geo-politics of a stock instead of its bottom line? Donald Trump doesn’t, for one. How about the Mayor of Jersey City? Isn’t he a client? Somebody pissed down their own leg.

See Doug, this is why you hire competent people.

What if the populist wings of both parties started working together?

In its political usage, the term “dog-whistle” has developed into something quite apart from what it originally meant. Wikipedia defines its use in politics as… “coded or suggestive language in political messaging to garner support from a particular group without provoking opposition… Dog whistles use language which appears normal to the majority, but which communicate specific things to intended audiences.”

Wikipedia cites popular writer and etymologist William Safire’s opinion that the term “dog whistle" may have been derived from its use in opinion polling. Safire quotes Richard Morin, director of polling for The Washington Post, as writing in 1988, “subtle changes in question-wording sometimes produce remarkably different results... researchers call this the 'Dog Whistle Effect': Respondents hear something in the question that researchers do not”. Safire’s Political Dictionary (2008) speculates that campaign workers adopted the phrase from political pollsters.

This usage doesn’t quite make sense. Apart from the fact that nearly all dogs can hear standard dog whistles, the idea of it being a secret “code” is fanciful, more a case of anthropomorphism. The dog whistle is a training tool. Period. By the repetitive use of a “dog whistle” (sometimes combined with other inducements) a dog can be trained to respond in a predictable way each time the whistle is used.

This knowledge allows us to see the term “dog whistle” in an entirely new way. For example, the use of the term “racist” may be seen as a “dog whistle” – by the use of which the “dog” can be trained to respond in a predictable and prescribed way. “Homophobe” is likewise a “dog whistle” – a training tool – the use of which will enable the user to obtain a predictable conformity from the “dog”.

This kind of “dog whistling” has long enabled corporate Democrats to prevent the party’s base from working with people of the same economic class. In the manner of an over-bearing mother, the Democrats tell their voters to “stay away” from “those bad people” because they are… (fill in the blank).

All this “dog whistling” about race and gender and sexual preference has divided America into camps based on surface “identity” markers and not on what really matters – economic power, the only “privilege” that matters. The scam goes like this: While most Americans want a future where the billionaire and the working person have an equal say in the process, the “identity” groups (funded by billionaires) distract from this and insist that it is the poor person of a different color or gender or sexuality who is the oppressor and the proper focus of group anger.

Because of this “dog whistling”, America has the least diverse political representation in its history. The lack of diversity with regards to economic class is an under-reported fact of American political life.

In his book, White-Collar Government: The Hidden Role of Class in Economic Policy Making (2013), Duke University Professor Nick Carnes reports on studies showing that while a majority of Americans work in blue-collar employment, only 2% of Congress were blue-collar workers before being elected and only 3% of State Legislators are employed as blue-collar workers. Carnes and others hold that this disparity reflects the economic decisions and priorities of legislative bodies in America – and it is an explanation of the gulf between the rhetoric and reality of legislation like the Cares Act. And it might explain why Governors like Phil Murphy appear so disconnected from the realities of working people, when they issue executive orders that destroy small businesses and jobs without a thought to how people will pay for health insurance and housing.

It is the disparity in economic power that led a Princeton University study (Gilens & Page, 2014) to conclude: "The preferences of the average American appear to have only a miniscule, near zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy." Americans believe in the ideal of democracy but increasingly understand that they do not have it.

The 2016 presidential election saw the rise of populist movements in both major political parties. Journalists like Glenn Greenwald and Matt Taibbi extensively reported on Establishment efforts by both parties to contain and dismiss the working class uprisings in their respective voting bases. The election of Donald Trump only confirmed the intensity of the pain being experienced by working Americans of all races, genders, and preferences. That pain has not gone away… it has only grown worse under government’s prescriptions to address the COVID pandemic.

Increasingly, populists on both the Left and Right are coming to understand – despite the designs of those who “dog whistle” identity – that their battle is not with each other, but rather with a political Establishment that screws all of them, while trying to stoke the fires of conflict and hatred between them. Here is a great video by Honest Left commentator and comedian Jimmy Dore…

In the post (from yesterday), Jimmy Dore includes some interesting videos from business owners who are suffering under the rules imposed on them by Democrat governors. He posted a recent article by The Intercept, titled, “The Unemployment Crisis is a True National Emergency: The incompetent criminals ruling the U.S. are about to push millions of Americans off a terrifying financial cliff”.

Another headline posted by Dore: “Yelp data shows 60% of business closures due to the coronavirus pandemic are now permanent”.

And another, from TIME magazine: “No Lessons Have Been Learned. Why the Trillion-Dollar Coronavirus Bailout Benefited the Rich.”

Dore notes: “We are turning America into Brazil… You want to know how you fight against fascism? You make sure people have a job.”

In the video, Dore blames Democrats like Tom Malinowski and Josh Gottheimer, who call suffering workers “white extremists” and “terrorists” – while voting for the very policies that cause the pain they are reacting to. Watch the video.

Dore points out that, according to PBS, the Federal Reserve plans to lend an additional $1 trillion a day to large banks. Dore then goes on to compare the support other nations are providing small to mid-sized businesses. He produces a graph from Public Citizen, showing the percentage of wages currently subsidized by governments for businesses closed due to COVID:

Japan – 100% for small Businesses. 80% for larger firms.
Netherlands – Up to 90%.
Norway – Up to 90%.
Germany – Up to 87%.
France – Up to 84%.
Italy – 80%.
United Kingdom – Up to 80%.
Canada – Up to 75%.
United States – 0%.

Dore also notes that billionaires have used the pandemic to increase their wealth by over a trillion dollars. He posts the following numbers:

Amazon profits up 100%.
Walmart profits up 80%.
Target profits up 80%.

All while 50 million Americans are facing food insecurity and 21% of small businesses have already closed permanently. Watch the video to see a list of the bonuses handed out to the CEO’s of major corporations during the COVID pandemic. Dore calls it a “rigged system in action.”

Are we getting closer to the predictions made about "fusion politics" by Ralph Nader, in his book Unstoppable: The Emerging Left-Right Alliance to Dismantle the Corporate State (2014)? Watch the video… Jimmy Dore is priceless!

“The entire business model of the Democratic Party is to avoid dealing with its own populists’ concerns, so they’ve never seen the Sanders wing of the party as anything but a threat to what they do for a living, which is basically take corporate money and then sell themselves as socially progressive. That’s what they do for a living. That’s their business.”
