Does the term “criminal” accurately describe the Dems’ Judiciary Chair?

By Rubashov

Matt Friedman cut his teeth doing hit jobs on people who political operative (and Bridgegate “mastermind”) Wally Edge didn’t like. And once he got the habit of it, he’s never been able to give it up.

There are two things that conspire to warp Matt’s character. The first, is his need to be at the cool table. Like his mentor, he gets off on his proximity to power and what passes for celebrity. Yes, within the confines of the sordid, corrupt little world that is Trenton – even Matt Friedman can be considered a “celebrity”.

The second, is his tendency to focus on words instead of actions. To Matt, having the right opinions makes one a “good person”. Conduct doesn’t matter. Matt can’t even see conduct. He is blind to it. And that is an unfortunate disability for a writer.

Enter Assemblyman Raj Mukherji, Chairman of the Assembly Judiciary Committee and co-founder, with Wally Edge, of the political website PoliticsNJ (which morphed into PolitickerNJ) that Matt Friedman worked for. Yes, it appears that Raj was once Matt’s boss.

Yesterday, the Assembly Judiciary Committee took up the codification of same-sex marriage (Matt calls it “gay” marriage) in New Jersey. It’s bill A-5367. Friedman writes:

What’s remarkable is that back when there was a real legislative effort to enact gay marriage in New Jersey a decade or so ago, there was a lot of opposition, by most Republicans and some Democrats. This time, the only dissenting voice was “ex-gay” Rev. Gregory Quinlan, a fringe figure.

Well, maybe that’s because the people’s house is on lockdown. For a party that goes on and on about making it easier for people to vote – they certainly don’t make it easy for people to testify before a legislative committee. In fact (and the recorded video of the meeting clearly shows this, see below), those who signed up to testify against the same-sex marriage bill in committee were ignored and not called upon.

In fact, as the vote concluded, Rev. Greg Quinlan spoke up to remind Chairman Mukherji that he had gone through the process of signing-up to testify. Now clearly, the purpose of such testimony is to be heard before a vote is taken, not after.

So, Rev. Quinlan spoke up, Chairman Mukherji apologized for ignoring him (and who else?) and then proceeded to indicate how open-minded he was by mocking Rev. Quinlan.

Friedman reported the exchange:

The Rev. Gregory Quinlan, a conservative activist who says he’s “ex-gay,” testified against the measure.

“No one is born gay. The science is zero. And so for that reason there is no justification to codify homosexual marriage or any of the sundry identities that have been put out over the last number of years,” Quinlan said.

“I think your comments are three fries short of a Happy Meal," Mukheri responded.

“Why would you be so hateful towards my comments?” Quinlan said.

I respect your right to speak but I find your comments to be abhorrent and hateful,” Mukherji said.

Did you catch that “says he’s ‘ex-gay’”? How would Matt or Raj like it if someone wrote of them, “Says he’s straight”? Is it the place of a journalist to insert such doubt into someone’s sexual preferences? Does Matt Friedman have specific personal knowledge of his subject’s sexuality? Or is Matt just preening for the snarks at the cool table?

Aren’t we constantly told by people like Matt and Raj that we must accept whatever identity someone applies to themselves? What would happen if Matt wrote, “Says he’s a woman”?

Back when Raj and Matt were in diapers, Greg Quinlan worked as an AIDS nurse. That’s right. Before taking up his religious duties he was a Registered Nurse and an activist with the Human Rights Campaign. He saw a lot of friends die of AIDS, many of whom he personally nursed.

Rev. Quinlan continues to provide care for the unwanted humanity that falls between the cracks in the Democrat utopia that is New Jersey. Every week, several times a week, he volunteers at a free clinic that ministers to the poor and homeless. Matt, what do you do with your free time? Raj?

Hey, but that’s just good conduct – and what’s good conduct when you mouth the right opinions, huh?

And shame on those Republicans on the committee who failed to speak up when their chairman behaved like a festered bunghole towards a citizen-guest testifying before their committee. Do any of you know what the word “abhorrent” means? It means “inspiring disgust and loathing,” “repugnant,” and “worthy of hate”. Do you think more or less people will want to testify before your committee when it gets around that you tell them you hate them? Is this kind of behavior good for democracy – or does having the powerful call the powerless nasty names suppress it?

In the future, be more polite. Especially to the taxpayers who are paying for your circus. And Republicans – you should ensure that your chairman behaves like an adult and call him out when he doesn’t.

Matt Friedman thought it especially funny when Chairman Mukherji mocked Rev. Quinlan with this very snarky line: “I think your comments are three fries short of a Happy Meal.” Friedman liked it so much that he made his old boss’ comment Politico’s “quote of the day”.

Perhaps it can be said that Raj Mukherji’s character is “three fries short of a Happy Meal” too. As United States District Judge Jose Linares put it: “In the matter of the United States of America v. Raj Mukherji, Defendant. The Defendant pled guilty… Accordingly, the Court has adjudicated that the Defendant is guilty.”

Assembly Democrats made Raj Mukherji the Chairman of the Assembly Judiciary Committee. He was also convicted of a federal crime that was uncovered as part of an investigation into an incident in which he was accused of stalking and harassing women. We wonder what his committee thinks about that?

Where is the ACLU defending womens' rights? Moreso, where is LUPE PAC? This Democratic group of Hispanic women surely would be going against Mr. Mukherji wouldn't they? After all, they are for womens’ empowerment, right?

Maybe we can assist Matt in his writing and investigational journalism. Well, Matt, we can help you. LUPEPAC will not even come near this story of exposing Mr. Mukherji criminal past for one simple reason. They are funded by none other than Totalitarian complex in chief, Murphy and it will expose his criminal past.

Mukherji was charged and later convicted of a crime in federal court (Criminal Case #2:06-cr-65). Raj Mukherji was sentenced in 2009 but despite this, by 2013, he was the Democrat Party nominee for Assembly. Hey, he had the right opinions. Too bad about the conduct (but it is, after all, Trenton).

See Raj at the taproom yelling "Jagerbombs!"

If Raj is free to call someone “abhorrent”, are we free to call Raj a “criminal”? Matt could use the term “ex-criminal” but then Matt doesn’t afford Rev. Quinlan the courtesy of “ex-gay”, so there should be some consistency.

Criminal behavior is, by definition, “fringe” behavior. It is an offense against the norms of society. So who, in fact, is the “fringe figure” – Rev. Quinlan or Assemblyman Mukherji?

Matt Friedman has sure raised a lot of questions.

“In a time of deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”

George Orwell
