The winning force in the Republican freedom movement: Billy Prempeh

by Joshua Sotomayor-Einstein

Sept 12, Haledon - Over 200 people gathered for the campaign launch of Billy Prempeh for Congress, Republican candidate for NJ's 9th Congressional District. The fundraising event, with tickets starting at $75, was held at La Neve’s in the Passaic County town of Haledon, and repeatedly broke out into raucous applause. The event was hosted by Joey DePasquale and Barbara Holstein and opened with a prayer led by former NJ GOP gubernatorial primary candidate Pastor Phil Rizzo. Eli Moallem, campaign manager for Prempeh for Congress, thanked an entire slew of grassroots leaders and fellow candidates for contributing to the event and supporting Prempeh.

Prempeh’s speech hit on topics from the Biden border crisis, draining the swamp of systemic political corruption in NJ and DC, the unreliability of the mainstream media, and the long ignored violent crime in his district’s urban centers. In his speech, often interrupted by long lasting applause, Prempeh stated that, “every person in this room, and every person in the United States has a blessing, that I like to call American privilege.” Prempeh, who made waves during his first run in 2020 by leading an activist grassroots campaign garnering more votes than any previous GOP challenger to incumbent Democrat Representative “Basement” Bill Pascrell, aptly labeled his opposition and other politicians owned by (and in the pocket of) special interests, as a “pocket-tician”.

In attendance were roughly a dozen candidates from across New Jersey seeking office in Council, County Commission, State Legislative, and Congressional races. Dave Herrera (East Brunswick Council hopeful), Ronald Lin (for Bergen County Commissioner), Joe Viso (NJ LD36 Assembly candidate), Craig Auriemma (NJ LD36 Senate candidate), Darius Mayfield (NJ CD12), and Mike Blasi (NJ CD4), are just some of the candidates who attended. Kimberly Klacik, who made a nationwide impact in her 2020 Congressional run in Maryland, was also in attendance as was Mike Gardner, Oradell Municipal GOP Chair and Candidate for Bergen County GOP Chairman.

Throughout the afternoon event, many of the grassroots leaders and Prempeh himself, emphasized the need for everyone in the GOP and the freedom movement to unite behind Republican Gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli in order to defeat extremist left wing NJ Governor Phil Murphy. The event, hailed as a success by Republicans across the district and beyond, is just the beginning for Prempeh and his campaign.
